Adventure is out there! Ellie has the distinction of not only being one of the most loved characters in the Pixar universe but one with also the least amount of screen time. Having had the privilege of telling her life story (the ones we showed in the movie and ones we set aside) I am especially attached. I can tell you that I still muse about their possible adventures: cross-country races, barnstorming, secret missions, cryptozoological hunts, rescuing endangered animals and ballroom dancing! A regular Indiana Jane.
I did this pin-up for San Francisco's Cartoon Art Museum fund raiser this coming weekend. Where? Why, at Pixar, that's where! Michael Johnson (who also happen to be the tech grand wizard who devised software for us to storyboard by) holds this annual get-together for CAM and a bunch of us donate lectures, tours and art. Go check it out.

wow...so beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Ronnie Del Carmen!
ReplyDeleteI love your Aviator Ellie piece!
It's beautiful.
Keep up the good work!
I cried like a baby when Ellie died... She remenbered me my grandma...(My grandma is still alive ok?)
ReplyDeleteAmazing! thanks for post ))))
ReplyDeleteawesome work. i love the "carl" tattoo.
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic. It's not difficult to imagine Ellie in such garb, what with her predominant tomboyish nature.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Ellie's lack of screen time, I wish that more of her (and Carl's) life story had been told. What was revealed was beautiful and of the perfect length for the film, but, like you, one can't help but wonder what other adventures they went on....
Your artistic style is captivating, as are your wonderful storyboards. Keep up the lovely work!
Cuty :) Beautiful art !
ReplyDeletewow this is awesome!
ReplyDeleteRonnie,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great one! If I could have made it there for the fundraiser I would have fought for this one. Dug was awesome but if you get to pitch another short there please pitch one of Ellie's back stories, I'll pre-purchase my ticket for that as early as they go on sale. Keep it up!!

Ronnie,
ReplyDeleteYou don't know how beautiful is to me. This film has lots of emotion meaning and is one of the reasons why I want to one day work in animation because of the beautiful story they told to a wide range of audiences.
For the past year I have been wondering about Ellie and her past exploits because she had so little screen time, and when I found this little delight on your blog.
Thank you for making my day, I hope all your work is going well for you at the moment and I second that any sort of story about Ellie, or back story about their story would make lots of fans as insanely happy as you made me.
Thank you so much,
Sophie Lowden.
pure awesomness !
ReplyDeleteawesome :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing work! Great panel at CTN also. Thanks for posting up so much inspiration!
ReplyDeleteBeyond beautiful, Ronnie!! Love her!! :)

ReplyDelete"haha... goggles." Truly beautiful!! Your work is AMAZING!!
ReplyDeletehi ronnie! had the privilege of meeting you in ottawa last year.
ReplyDeleteironically enough, my name is Ellie, and the adventurous soul you portray in Ellie is exactly what I was like as a kid, (and still wish to be like). my fav movie was of course Indiana Jones! LOL
Thanks for such beautiful work! keep posting your inspirational visions! :)
Fantastic art on a wonderful blog...leaving inspired, and ready for drawing!

Sweet Ellie. The montage at the beginning of "Up" was actually very moving to me...I shed a tear. And you gotta love the aviator getup--we take a lot of cues for steampunk goggles and so forth from these older styles. Awesome work, by the way.
ReplyDeleteYou could definitely see your enthusiasm within the paintings you write. The world hopes for more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe. Always go after your heart.
